Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

This news arrives shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world says farewell to a true visionary whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
