Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future following another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from the top,” the coach commented.

“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He added, “In the normal exchanges I feel the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Persistent Failings and Player Reaction

Slot lamented known weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.

“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period like this with results this poor.”

He finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
