Fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start the full month. A free-to-play playable preview will become available on the seventh of January, providing a generous look into the game's opening hours. Notably, all progress achieved within this demo can be imported directly into the main game upon its February launch.

Beyond Just a Simple Remake: The Complete Overhaul

This title represents a comprehensive reinterpretation of the landmark year 2000 JRPG, initially known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a significant step away from recent series remakes, such as the recently launched HD-2D versions, this version adopts a charming three-dimensional aesthetic. Locales have been crafted to look like intricate model sets, with party members sporting a appealing chibi-esque design.

"Taking into account the previous port, the story was remained exceptionally lengthy. Therefore, we reached a conclusion that we wanted to tighten the story, [and] craft an experience for modern audiences."

Key Gameplay Changes & Updates

Square Enix have implemented a host of changes to update the classic experience. These include:

  • Streamlined Overworld Encounters: Similar to contemporary role-playing games, low-level enemies can now be dispatched directly on the exploration screen eliminating the need for initiating a separate turn-based battle screen.
  • Adjustable Battle Speed: Players can speed up battle sequences to rapidly get past simpler encounters.
  • New Job System: A completely new job class was introduced for this remake. Additionally, party members now have the option to take on a second vocation, greatly enhancing strategic depth.

Such alterations are designed to address a key the original game's common points of feedback: its daunting length. The original storyline was known to require more than 100 hours to complete. This reimagined version has been expressly designed to enhance flow and reduce perceived bloat.
