NBA game action

The Miami Heat scored eighty-six first-half scores against the Memphis Grizzlies

The Heat secured a crushing 146 to 114 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies in their initial NBA match after player Terry Rozier was arrested for suspected illegal gambling.

Trail Blazers coach Billups was also detained in connection with a extensive federal probe into illegal gambling. The two individuals deny the allegations.

However, the Heat were not distracted as they put up eighty-six opening half points to lead the Grizzlies by 39 at halftime, the largest half-time advantage in the team's 37 year history.

Adebayo led the way with 24 scores and afterwards said Terry had the support of the team.

"We support him. Full support," Bam said. "You support him through and through. He's like family ultimately."

Heat coach Spoelstra commented: "Terry is somebody who is very dear to everyone. He's had a real positive impact on our locker room.

"We send our thoughts and support for him as he faces the situation."

The Trail Blazers additionally won their first game since the arrests, with Brazil-born Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Chauncey's absence and guiding the team to a decisive 139 to 119 victory over the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Billups and how he coached," Splitter said. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

League Commissioner Adam Silver 'Disturbed' over Recent Events

Addressing the arrests for the first time, NBA commissioner Silver stated he was "deeply disturbed" by the events of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the league and its fans than the integrity of the competition," he informed Amazon Prime. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner further mentioned an league probe into the player's actions in March 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a game he participated for the Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the betting companies," he continued.

"We then looked into that situation and were open about it. Although there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.

"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the league office is unable to.

"Therefore, we've been cooperating from that point. And, of course, what they announced yesterday was an indictment.

"Moreover two and a half years after, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in fairness to Terry.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance here between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
