The most recent Far Cry game that players explored was Far Cry 6, which showcased Giancarlo Esposito as the bad guy, Antón, and was released back in October 6, 2021. As a series, it has a reputation for embracing action and insanity with similar glee, all while telling captivating, socially charged narratives. Little surprise that the network’s recent announcement for a Far Cry seasonal program pulled in two producers whose work have represented all of those elements.
Adapted from Ubisoft's successful video game franchise, the short-run anthology series is set to premiere on Hulu and will be created by FX Productions. The show will also parallel the video games' style by introducing a fresh backdrop and cast of characters in every instalment.
Rob Mac, mastermind of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will work as executive producers on the series via their companies, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
We’ve shared outstanding relationships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are thrilled that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” commented Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a statement. “I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is fresh, engrossing, and wildly entertaining. We also want to appreciate our partners at Ubisoft for entrusting us with this cherished property.”
Mac will also appear in the show, but as of now, we have no details on what part that may be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was not long ago approved for a second instalment, with FX and Disney agreeing to a new long-term contract with the showrunner.
“Being able to collaborate with Noah Hawley is a fantasy come true,” said Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been exceptionally generous, placing faith in us with one of the most renowned video-game realms ever created. And through it all, my FX team continues to lift me up with their steady confidence and backing.”
“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an standalone show. Each game is a variation of a idea, the same way every series of Fargo is a adaptation on a theme,” noted Hawley. “To create a big action show that can shift from season to season, while always delving into the nature of people through this intricate and chaotic lens, is a long-held aspiration. I’m excited to collaborate with Rob and bring our common unconventional, ambitious style to the screen.”
A time frame for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has remains undisclosed. The series will be available on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus globally.
