The President announced on Wednesday evening that he had approved the bill decisively approved by Congress members that instructs the federal justice agency to disclose more records regarding the convicted sex offender, the deceased pedophile.
This action follows months of resistance from the chief executive and his backers in Congress that divided his core constituency and generated conflicts with various established backers.
Trump had opposed making public the related records, calling the situation a "hoax" and condemning those who wanted to make the files available, even though pledging their disclosure on the political campaign.
However he changed direction in the past few days after it become clear the legislative chamber would endorse the bill. The president said: "Everything is transparent".
The specifics remain uncertain what the agency will disclose in as a result of the legislation – the legislation specifies a variety of various records that should be made public, but includes exemptions for certain documents.
The bill requires the chief law enforcement officer to make public Epstein-related files open for review "in a searchable and downloadable format", covering every inquiry into Epstein, his associate his accomplice, aircraft records and travel records, people referenced or named in connection with his illegal activities, institutions that were connected with his trafficking or money operations, immunity deals and additional legal settlements, internal communications about charging decisions, evidence of his imprisonment and demise, and details about potential document destruction.
The justice department will have 30 days to turn over the documents. The measure includes some exceptions, including removals of victims' identifying information or individual documents, any depictions of youth molestation, releases that would jeopardize active investigations or court proceedings and representations of death or exploitation.
