The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to appear in the upcoming Hunger Games instalment, Sunrise on the Reaping.
Reports indicate that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
An Important Return to Panem
The actors are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. Industry whispers indicate their appearance will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, given that the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This signifies the sixth installment in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
Exploring the New Story
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind the majority of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several prominent actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the shoot:
- Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
- Filming was completed in November of the same year.
- The eagerly awaited film is targeting a November 2026 premiere.
